Bobby Hsu (alto saxophonist, educator) is a Toronto-based musician, composer, and arranger. He began studying violin at the age of eight and began saxophone at fifteen. He studied classical saxophone with Abe Kestenberg and majored in jazz performance at McGill University. He has also studied privately with saxophonists Pat LaBarbera and Mike Murley.Bobby has been active in Toronto for fourteen years and has a range of performing and teaching experience. Bobby has recently teaching experience. Bobby has recently focused his efforts on A Sondheim Jazz Project, a group that performs modern jazz arrangements of songs by Stephen Sondheim with singer Alex Samaras. The group released their first recording, “City of Strangers,” in 2013.
